Random thought of the day: misogyny is the new racism, andreproductive rights is the new Southern Strategy.Big 5 personality traits:Openness to experience - highConscientiousness - medium-highExtraversion - mediumAgreeableness - medium-highNeuroticism - lowOther random adjectives:Progressive - Socially and fiscally very liberal, but completelynon-dogmatic. I think the GOP is irredeemably corrupt, but I'd loveto seesome kind of reasonable opposition to the Democrats (which Igenerally see as the lesser of 2 evils).Socialist - I think the Scandinavian countries do government right.Note that they're mixed economies like everyone else - elements ofcapitalism and socialism. They just seem to have a better mix, judging by all available data I can find.Atheist - I believe in no form of the supernatural and I thinkorganized religion has been a net negative for humanity, but Idon't judge any individual person for being religious unless theirpersonal beliefs are harmful. On the other hand, recent reading ofJonathan Haidt has made me think human psychology includes a senseof divinity or spirituality... and without any supernatural ormetaphysical attachments, I feel it too. Being in nature makes mefeel alive and happy and awake beyond any reasonable standard. Sodoes learning. So do good discussion and good friends. Hate to sayit, but I think the new atheist movement is missing somethinghere.Secular humanist - I think the highest possible good is inelevating the human condition. Sound schmaltzy? It is. But it'salso a really good idea. And before you think I sound like ahippie, I'm generally pro-nuclear power and anti-alternativemedicine (although, as with anything else, show me the data andI'll change my mind).Colossal flaming nerd - in case it wasn't already obvious. I'm alsosapiosexual (brains are hot, and brains attached to honest, happy,self-actualized people are even hotter), academically-minded(hoping to start working on a Masters in political science nextyear), and puntastic. Ye have been warned. :pI love the open-minded exchange of ideas in academic communities. Igot my degrees in philosophy (epistemology and ethics) and English, but still audit classes whenever I have the time. I'm happiest whenI'm knee-deep in half a dozen different fields.I'm of the opinion that a lot of our current political mess is dueto the debate becoming ideological rather than pragmatic, and thatit's much harder to compromise or reason with ideology than it iswith differing interpretations of data. It's an interestingproblem, and 1 I'm already planning research on. > and > are my goodfriends, and they're both beautiful people. If you like women, orfriends, you should talk to them.NOTE: I've talked to a lot of women on OKC who are apparentlyperceived as too forward or slutty if they send the 1st message.I've also talked to some really nice transgender/transsexual peoplewho pretty much expected me to stop talking to them after theymentioned being trans. That crap always makes me sad.Women who send the 1st message, you're fighting a really shittyform of sexism that has no place in this century. Props!Trans people who send really nice messages even when you'reexpecting the response to be some kind of bigoted outrage, you'reawesome too. And for the record, 1 of the great things aboutbeing bi is that I can date people based on their character insteadof their plumbing. Trans people, if we get along well and I likeyou, I'll like your body too.
